Case Study: Virtual Wedding

Following their engagement over the Thanksgiving holiday, Kelly and Marty Waddington solidified plans for a lavish wedding in the Miami neighborhood of Coconut Grove on May 9, 2020. Invitations were sent to 180 of their closest family and friends and every detail had been finalized.

But COVID-19 had other plans for the couple, forcing closures and cancellations across the country – including what they thought to be their dream wedding. As time went on and Florida began easing restrictions, Kelly and Marty decided to keep their May 9th date, opting for a “minimony” – a small, socially distanced wedding ceremony – instead of their original in-person gathering. To do this, they enlisted the help of the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort and PSAV.

Set up for the big day included camera and recording such as the Pearl MiniTM, handheld mics, sound systems, laptop and a Cradlepoint hot spot for optimal streaming. Since the couple was already connected to family and friends on social media, the team decided to stream the ceremony on Facebook Live. Our team also provided a polished, professional recording of the wedding.

While 250 people joined live, the wedding has now been viewed more than 2,000 times and even received press coverage from local Miami news station, Local 10 WPLG. Kelly and Marty say the day was perfect with a pink sky – Kelly’s favorite – and beautiful weather.

“The final product was fantastic. The response from our family and friends was, without exception, highly complementary. And as an added bonus, we were able to welcome people to our wedding that would have not been able to be present even under ‘normal’ circumstances. We could not have hoped for more and want to offer our forever thanks and praise to PSAV Virtual Events!”
