A Message from CEO Mike McIlwain to PSAV Team Members
To my PSAV family,
Earlier this week, I released a video addressing my views on the tragic death of George Floyd and the ensuing national reaction. Mr. Floyd's needless death and the events that followed greatly illuminated the problem of racism and created a sense of urgency for all of us to do more. While I don't have the answers to the difficult issues we face, I know all of us are working together to make meaningful change that can make PSAV a force of change for good in overcoming racism and hate.
Today and always, PSAV stands with Black and African American communities in this time of grief, pain and outrage. We remain committed to creating a workplace that values all people and their diverse communities and provides opportunities for growth and prosperity for each of you. Core to our purpose to Connect and Inspire, we believe in working together to create change in our world, and to make sure all voices are heard. But, creating real, lasting change will require each and every one of us to get involved, engage in challenging conversations, and personally advocate for change. You have my personal commitment to see that we continue to develop an open culture that creates an environment for the exchange of ideas to make sure all feel welcome and have the opportunity for personal growth and advancement.
Our ongoing focus on Diversity & Inclusion includes our support of the formation of Business Resource Groups (BRGs) in recent years. Our BRGs are open for all to join and are designed to create an environment to share ideas, voice challenges, and provide support for the diverse groups that are vital to the success of our company.
Currently, there are four BRGs formed by team members and led by a senior-level executive sponsor:
- Black and African Americans of PSAV
- Pride at PSAV
- Veterans at PSAV
- Women of PSAV
I encourage you all to join one of our BRGs or create a local chapter to strengthen the conversation. We need your voice now more than ever.
Additionally, I am honored to have signed a CEO pledge, along with CEOs from some of the world's most respected companies, which outlines specific actions we will take to support diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Click here to access the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion website. This is just a single step in a very long journey. I need each of you to join me as we move to eradicate racism and hatred in all walks of life.
During the past several months, I have challenged all of us to pull together to fight the fight of our professional careers as we have faced the COVID-19 crisis. I am proud of how you have all responded with incredible sacrifice as our work has been eliminated to protect the most vulnerable in our society from a health perspective.
As the rhetoric in the news cycle has grown more heated in recent days, I would reiterate the importance of our coming together as a PSAV family. We need to learn about the daily difficulties our Black and African American team members face in our society that we don't understand. Through this learning, we can work together to empathize with the pain and create positive change within PSAV and our communities.
I close with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that I have always found hopeful in times of discouragement. "Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love... Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
